Superstar Lionel Messi netted his sixth goal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 as Argentina beat Jordan 3-1 in their Group J match in Dallas.
Giovani Lo Celso opened the scoring for Argentina with a stunning free-kick in the 19th minute before Lautaro Martinez doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 31st minute.
Mousa Altamari pulled a goal back for Jordan shortly after half-time.
Messi came off the bench and extended Argentina’s two-goal lead in the 80th minute.
Argentina will take on Cabo Verde in the Round of 32 in Miami next Friday.
Algeria and Austria reached the Round of 32 after battling to a thrilling draw in their final Group J match at Kansas City Stadium.
Marko Arnautovic gave Austria a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute, but Rafik Belghali levelled the scores for Algeria in the 41st minute.
Austria regained the lead through Marcel Sabitzer’s stunning strike in the 55th minute, but Riyad Mahrez equalised for Algeria shortly afterwards.
Algeria made it 3-2 in the third minute of added time through Mahrez’s second goal, but Sasa Kalajdzic levelled the scores for Austria in the closing moments.
Meanwhile, England finished top of Group L as second-half goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane secured a 2-0 win over Panama at New York New Jersey Stadium.
