Bhubaneswar: Three wards of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have secured top positions in the Swachh Vayu Survekshan conducted by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), government of India.
Ward No. 30 and Ward No. 36 secured the first rank at the national level in Category-II, covering cities with populations between three lakh and 10 lakh.
Ward No. 22 of BMC also secured the first rank at the state level in the same category. The achievement highlights BMC’s efforts to improve air quality and create a cleaner and healthier Bhubaneswar.
The awards were presented by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, Chairperson of the National Green Tribunal. Senior officials from the MoEFCC and Central Pollution Control Board were also present.
The Swachh Vayu Survekshan assesses cities and wards on several parameters linked to air quality. These include dust control, plantation, vehicular emission control, scientific waste management and construction and demolition waste management.
At the state-level awards, BMC Ward 22 and Cuttack Ward 43 were recognised under Category-II. Rourkela Municipal Corporation Ward 14 was recognised under Category-III.
At the city level, Rourkela ranked first among cities with populations between three lakh and 10 lakh. Bhubaneswar secured fourth position in the same category.
Among cities with populations below three lakh, Kalinga Nagar, Angul and Talcher secured the first, second and third positions respectively.
The recognition underscores the continued efforts of urban local bodies in Odisha to strengthen measures for cleaner air and better urban environmental management.
