Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has conducted a high-level review meeting to assess the state’s preparedness against any possible Ebola virus outbreak, with a focus on preventive measures, medical infrastructure, and public awareness.

The meeting was chaired by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling at the State Secretariat in Bhubaneswar. Senior officials from the Health Department, National Health Mission, public health authorities, and airport operations attended the review.

During the meeting, officials discussed the state’s readiness to handle any potential health emergency linked to the Ebola virus. The review covered surveillance mechanisms, preparedness of healthcare facilities, and the availability of essential medical support systems.

The minister directed authorities to further strengthen screening arrangements at all airports in Odisha to ensure early detection of suspected cases. He also emphasised the need for quick identification of symptomatic individuals, preparedness of isolation wards, and adequate stock of medicines and protective equipment.

The government also decided to intensify public awareness campaigns on the Ebola virus infection and ensure the dissemination of accurate information to prevent panic and rumours among people.

Dr. Mahaling said the Odisha government is fully prepared to respond to any possible public health emergency and appealed to citizens to remain cautious without giving in to fear.
