Tokyo: India’s Mahit Sandhu continued her exceptional run in Tokyo, adding yet another gold to her tally.
The 20-year-old sharpshooter won the women’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event, securing her fourth medal in a remarkable Summer Deaflympics debut.
Mahit delivered an impressive 456.0 in the 45-shot final, finishing ahead of South Korea’s Dain Jeong (453.5) and Hungary’s Mira Zsuzsanna Biatovszki (438.6).
Her performance in the qualification was just as stunning. She set new Deaf Qualification World and Deaflympics records with a score of 585-31x, surpassing her own previous world record of 576.
Mahit’s series – 194 in kneeling, 198 in prone, and 193 in standing – set a pace no competitor could match. India’s Natasha Joshi also made the final, placing fifth after qualifying seventh with 566-12x.
In the final, Mahit stayed firmly in control through all three positions. A single 9.4 on her 41st shot gave Jeong a brief opening, but Mahit responded with four straight 10s, sealing the gold with complete authority.
