Veteran actor Dharmendra, one of Hindi cinema’s most enduring icons, passed away in Mumbai on Monday at the age of 89. The celebrated star, who had been receiving treatment at Breach Candy Hospital earlier this month, breathed his last at home after being discharged.

According to a police statement, arrangements for the last rites were made at the Shree Vile Parle Seva Samaj crematorium. Family members, including Hema Malini, Esha Deol, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol, were present. Several members of the film fraternity — among them Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, Govinda, Shabana Azmi, Chiranjeevi, Kareena Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal — arrived to pay their final respects.

Dharmendra leaves behind his wives Prakash Kaur and Hema Malini, sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and daughters Vijeta, Ajeeta, Esha and Ahana.

Tributes poured in from across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the actor’s passing “marks the end of an era in Indian cinema,” remembering him for his versatility and warmth. President Droupadi Murmu described his demise as “a great loss to Indian cinema,” noting that his legacy would continue to inspire. Union Home Minister Amit Shah recalled Dharmendra’s remarkable career spanning six decades, while Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed shock, calling him the beloved “He-Man of Bollywood” whose films and dialogues remain unforgettable.
