Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Tuesday reaffirmed that India’s partnership with the United States remains “strong, stable and continuously expanding,” stressing that bilateral trade negotiations must remain fair and balanced to protect domestic interests.

Speaking at an event organised by the Indo American Chamber of Commerce in New Delhi, Goyal said the US views India as a trusted partner, and both countries are committed to deepening economic cooperation across sectors. He added that comprehensive partnerships often progress at different speeds, but India would continue to safeguard the concerns of farmers, fishermen, small manufacturers and local businesses.

Goyal underlined that India’s rise from the “Fragile Five” to one of the world’s top five economies reflects strong fundamentals and growing global confidence. He said the country is on track to become the world’s third-largest economy by 2027, driven by stable banking systems, rising consumer sentiment and rapid infrastructure expansion, according to a PIB India release.

Highlighting India’s role as an emerging model of development, he said the government’s reform-oriented approach, combined with a skilled youth population and expanding global partnerships, has strengthened investor confidence. India, he noted, produces 2.4 million STEM graduates each year and continues to pursue multiple free trade agreements to boost exports and market access.

Goyal said the government is committed to enabling ease of doing business by reducing compliances, promoting innovation and encouraging foreign companies—especially from the US—to invest in sectors such as advanced technologies, design, AI and quantum computing. He stressed that India remains an “oasis of stability” in a volatile global economy and is prepared to work closely with American businesses to unlock new opportunities.

He concluded by emphasising that the India–US partnership is anchored in shared democratic values and mutual economic ambition, saying both nations stand to benefit significantly from deeper trade and investment ties.
