PM congratulates Sanae Takaichi on landmark Japan election victory

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated Sanae Takaichi on her victory in Japan’s House of Representatives elections, calling it a landmark moment.

In a message, the PM said the Indo-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership plays a vital role in promoting global peace, stability, and prosperity. In a post on X, Modi expressed confidence that under Takaichi’s leadership, bilateral ties would continue to scale new heights.

Takaichi’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on Sunday secured a landslide victory in Japan’s general election, winning a supermajority in the powerful House of Representatives, aljazeera.com reported. According to results collated by public broadcaster NHK, the LDP won 316 of the 465 seats in the election, well above the 233 required for a majority.
