New Delhi: US President Donald Trump has once again underlined the importance of ties between Washington and New Delhi, describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “great friend” and highlighting India’s status as an ancient civilisation and a vital partner in the Indo-Pacific region.

The comments were amplified by the US Embassy in India through a post on X, reflecting the increasingly positive tone of bilateral relations as the two countries continue engagements on trade, defence co-operation, and regional stability.

“We have a great friend in PM Modi,” Trump said in a post on X.

Trump’s remarks come in the wake of a telephonic interaction between the two leaders on Thursday, during which Modi and the US president reviewed key areas of co-operation. Official summaries of the conversation indicated discussions on expanding defence manufacturing links, deepening collaboration in advanced and emerging technologies, and addressing shared regional security concerns. The leaders also reiterated their commitment to working together to promote a free, open, and secure Indo-Pacific.
