Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati on Friday visited the CSIR-Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (CSIR-IMMT) in Bhubaneswar and reviewed the research and technology development initiatives undertaken by the institute in the fields of minerals, materials and sustainable technologies.
During his visit, the Governor inspected the PGIM pilot plant, the mineral processing pilot plant, the Sustainable Recycling Centre and a technology demonstration plant developed for the recovery of four metals from deep-sea polymetallic nodules.
The Governor was briefed by the institute’s senior management and scientists about various research, technology development and innovation initiatives being undertaken at CSIR-IMMT. He was also provided detailed information on technologies developed for mineral processing, sustainable recycling and the recovery of valuable metals from deep-sea polymetallic nodules.
Dr Kambhampati appreciated the institute’s efforts towards developing indigenous technologies and promoting sustainable solutions in the minerals and materials sector. He congratulated the scientists, researchers and officials of CSIR-IMMT for their contributions to innovation, technology development and areas of national priority.
The Governor also congratulated CSIR-IMMT for developing what the institute described as the country’s first indigenous pilot plant for processing bituminous coal fly ash and recovering value-added products at the NALCO Research and Technology Centre (NRTC) in Bhubaneswar.
Dr Bipin Kumar, a member of the Hindi Advisory Committees of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, was present during the visit along with CSIR-IMMT Director Dr Ramanujan Narayanan.
The visit highlighted CSIR-IMMT’s ongoing work in developing indigenous technologies and sustainable solutions, particularly in mineral processing, recycling and the recovery of critical and valuable resources
