Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has launched the ‘Odisha Yatri Suraksha App’ on the occasion of Self-Government Day, marking a major step towards safer and more citizen-centric urban mobility in Odisha.
The safety initiative was launched in the presence of Housing and Urban Development Minister Dr Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Odisha Yatri brand ambassador and actress Archita Sahu.
The new safety module has been integrated into the Odisha Yatri platform and provides passengers with multiple emergency response features. It is designed to offer quick assistance during emergencies without requiring users to navigate through several screens.
A key feature of the initiative is ‘Shake & Alert’. Passengers can trigger an emergency alert simply by shaking their mobile phone. The feature is intended to help users seek assistance quickly, including situations where they may be frightened or unable to operate the application normally.
The platform also provides a one-click SOS facility. Passengers can use it to immediately call the emergency number 112 and alert their designated emergency contacts.
Users can also share their live location with trusted contacts. This enables those contacts to track the passenger’s journey in real time and provide assistance when required.
The safety system has been developed for both passengers and drivers. The initiative aims to ensure that emergency assistance remains accessible to everyone inside an Odisha Yatri vehicle.

The ‘Mark Ride as Safe’ feature allows passengers to deactivate alerts after reaching their destination safely.
The initiative aims to make daily commuting safer, more reliable and more inclusive, particularly for women, senior citizens and other vulnerable passengers.
Launching the app, Majhi said safe, smooth and reliable transportation is essential for building citizen-friendly and prosperous cities. He stressed the need to use technology to strengthen public trust and enable citizens, particularly women, to travel independently and without fear.
Dr Mahapatra said the initiative reflects the Odisha government’s commitment to building a modern urban transport system focused on citizens’ safety, dignity and convenience.
Sahu encouraged citizens, particularly women and young people, to use the Odisha Yatri platform and become familiar with its safety features. She highlighted the availability of instant assistance and emergency safety facilities for passengers.
Odisha Yatri is developing as an integrated transport platform offering several services. These include ride booking, Ama Bus services, FASTicket spot booking and boating facilities.
With the addition of the upgraded safety module, the platform aims to provide a more convenient, affordable, and secure travel experience across Odisha.
