Bhubaneswar: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), a flagship unit of the Steel Authority of India Limited, produced a record 1,752,561 tonnes of saleable steel during April-August 2026, surpassing its previous best of 1,748,349 tonnes achieved in 2023.
Hot Strip Mill-2 was among the major contributors to the achievement. The mill produced 1,123,275 tonnes during April-August 2026, exceeding its previous record of 1,068,360 tonnes registered in 2025.
The mill also set a new benchmark by producing 146,748 tonnes of HR Plates from its Sheet Shearing Line (SSL) during the period. This surpassed the previous record of 123,405 tonnes achieved in 2025.
The Silicon Steel Mill also registered a new production record. It produced 34,400 tonnes of Cold Rolled Non-Oriented steel, exceeding its previous record of 33,736 tonnes recorded in 2008, RSP said in a release.
The achievements were driven by the collective efforts of the workforce, optimised process management, and synergy among the operating units.
The performance reinforces RSP’s commitment to high-volume and quality steel production for the nation.
