RSP records highest-ever April production across key operations

Bhubaneswar: The Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has registered its highest-ever April production across multiple operational segments, reflecting strong performance, operational efficiency, and sustained capacity utilisation.

In a notable achievement, Sinter Plant-III recorded a production of 3,13,234 tonnes, contributing to a best-April total sinter output of 6,11,259 tonnes. Blast Furnace #5 (BF #5) also reported its best April performance with production of 2,73,186 tonnes of hot metal.

The Steel Melting Shop-2 (SMS-2) produced 3,18,925 tonnes of crude steel during the month, while total crude steel output from both Steel Melting Shops stood at 3,43,365 tonnes, SAIL said in a release.

In the finishing mills, the New Plate Mill rolled 88,203 tonnes of plates, marking a best-April figure. Hot Strip Mill-2 (HSM-2) recorded HR coil production of 2,30,831 tonnes, also its highest for April. Additionally, HR plate production from the Sheet Shearing Line of HSM-2 reached an all-time high of 26,686 tonnes.

April also saw total saleable steel production crossing 3,61,801 tonnes, adding to the plant’s strong monthly performance.

The achievement highlights RSP’s continued focus on productivity and efficiency, supported by a skilled workforce and strategic operational planning. The plant also met its annual production targets in several key areas, including Oven Pushing in Coke Oven Battery-6 at 363 numbers per day, Sinter Plant-I production at 1,27,235 tonnes, Sinter Plant-II at 1,70,790 tonnes, HR coils for sale from HSM-2 at 1,89,205 tonnes, and ERW pipes production at 5,019 tonnes.

Rayagada declared new railway division, to become operational from June 1

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his support in advancing Odisha’s development agenda and aspirations.

In a post on X, he also thanked Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for declaring Rayagada as a new Railway Division.

Describing the decision as a landmark step, the chief minister said it reflects the strength of “double-engine governance” and fulfils a long-cherished demand of the people of Southern Odisha.

He stated that the new Rayagada Railway Division will become operational from 1 June, marking the beginning of a transformative phase for the region.

According to him, the new division will improve regional connectivity, unlock tourism potential, increase revenue generation, and support inclusive and sustainable growth.

He further said the development will bring Odisha closer to its goal of becoming a key contributor to India’s overall progress under the vision of Viksit Bharat.

Rayagada is set to have its own railway division following a gazette notification issued by the Central government for its formation. The new division will become operational from June 1.

The move is expected to strengthen rail connectivity in the region, improve transportation services, and support smoother movement of passengers and goods.

Odisha pushes investment outreach in Gujarat roadshow, holds high-level industry talks

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is continuing its efforts to strengthen industrial growth and employment generation in the state, with a focus on attracting large-scale investments and positioning Odisha as a leading investment destination.

A high-level delegation, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Industries, Skill Development, and Technical Education Sampad Swain, on Tuesday participated in the Odisha Investors’ Meet Roadshow held in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The initiative was aimed at showcasing Odisha’s industrial potential, infrastructure strength, and investment-friendly policy environment to leading industry stakeholders. The event witnessed participation from over 500 industry leaders and stakeholders, Majhi said in a series of posts on X.

The leadership stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the coordination of “double engine” governance at the Centre and in Odisha, the state’s development trajectory has gained renewed momentum. Industrial growth and employment generation for youth were highlighted as top priorities.

As part of the outreach, 26 high-impact one-on-one meetings were conducted with leading industrial representatives across sectors such as chemicals and renewable energy.

During the engagements, discussions were held with Natarwal Patel, Chairman of Meghmani Organics Limited, focusing on potential investment opportunities and expansion scope in Odisha’s chemical sector.

The delegation also met Melwyn Moses, CEO of Borosil Renewables Limited, where discussions centred on the manufacturing of green energy equipment. An Investment Intent Form was signed during the meeting.

In another interaction, CM Majhi and Minister Swain met Hitesh Doshi of Waaree Energies Limited. The discussion focused on the company’s upcoming solar panel and module manufacturing unit in Dhenkanal and its future expansion plans in Odisha. The state assured full support for the timely execution of the projects.

Officials reiterated that Odisha is emerging as a strong industrial hub, supported by world-class infrastructure, progressive policy frameworks, and a commitment to ease of doing business. The state emphasized its focus on providing both opportunity and investment certainty.

The Gujarat roadshow forms part of Odisha’s broader strategy to accelerate industrial transformation, attract global investors, and create sustainable employment opportunities within the state.
