Impressive Spain blank France to reach FIFA World Cup 2026 final

A fine all-round performance helped Spain beat France 2-0 in their FIFA World Cup 2026 semi-final at Dallas Stadium.

The reigning European champions will meet the winners of the England-Argentina semi-final at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.

Spain frustrated France right from the start.

Spain were awarded a penalty after Lamine Yamal was fouled by Lucas Digne, and Mikel Oyarzabal made no mistake from the spot in the 22nd minute.

Pedro Porro sealed Spain’s victory in the 58th minute with a fine goal.

France tried their best to find the net, but goalkeeper Unai Simon produced a series of fine saves to ensure Spain kept a clean sheet and secured their place in the final.

Porro was adjudged the Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match.

Later, Porro told reporters: “It’s a dream come true. It’s honestly beyond my wildest dreams. I think we played a great game and did everything we had to do to reach the final. We knew we were up against a really, really tough team. This is the team’s achievement, not mine at all. It’s simply about congratulating everyone because they played a fantastic match.”

“I don’t think we lacked solutions or desire today. They were simply better than us when it came to winning second balls and recovering possession. I think that’s where the game was decided because if we had won more of those balls, we could have caused them a lot more problems,” France’s Rayan Cherki told reporters after the defeat.
