Ousmane Dembélé netted a superb hat-trick against Norway as France secured their third straight victory in Group I of the FIFA World Cup.
This was the second-fastest World Cup hat-trick of all time.
Dembélé struck a superb goal in the seventh minute to give France a 1-0 lead. He doubled the advantage in the 13th minute with an eye-catching goal.
One minute later, Thelo Aasgaard pulled one back for Norway. Dembélé completed his hat-trick with a powerful left-footed strike in the 32nd minute.
Norway could have reduced the deficit further after earning a penalty, but Strand Larsen’s spot kick was comfortably saved by Mike Maignan.
Désiré Doué scored France’s fourth and final goal in the 94th minute.
Pape Gueye scored a brace as Senegal thrashed Iraq 5-0 in another Group I clash in Toronto.
Apart from Sarr, other goal scorers were Habib Diarra (4), Ismaïla Sarr (56), and Iliman Ndiaye (82).
Cabo Verde reached the Round of 32 despite a goalless draw with Saudi Arabia in their Group H game. They finished second behind Spain, who earlier defeated Uruguay by a solitary goal. Cabo Verde drew all three of their Group matches to finish second place.
Álex Baena’s late first-half goal was enough for Spain to secure three points.
They will meet the runners-up from Group J in Los Angeles on July 2.
