Central University of Odisha gets new Vice-Chancellor

Bhubaneswar: The government of India has appointed Dr Ajit Kumar Shasany as the new Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha.

According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Education’s Department of Higher Education, the appointment has been made by the president of India in her capacity as the Visitor of the Central University of Odisha.

Dr Shasany, currently Director of the CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow, has been appointed Vice-Chancellor for a term of five years from the date he assumes office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier.

The notification stated that the terms and conditions of his service as Vice-Chancellor will be governed by the provisions of the Central University of Odisha Act, the University’s Statutes, Ordinances, and other applicable regulations.

The appointment order, dated July 2, 2026, has been issued by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education and communicated to the Registrar of the Central University of Odisha in Koraput.

Copies of the notification have also been forwarded to the CSIR-National Botanical Research Institute, the University Grants Commission, the Association of Indian Universities, the President’s Secretariat, and other concerned authorities.
