Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday underscored the importance of skill development and employment opportunities for hearing-impaired girls, urging efforts to connect them with the state’s growing industrial sector.
The governor made the remarks while interacting with nearly 50 members of Kendujhar-based SEVA Foundation, including hearing-impaired girls and persons with physical disabilities, at the Abhishek Hall in Lok Bhavan.
During the interaction, representatives of the foundation informed the governor that the girls are receiving vocational training in tailoring and handicrafts to help them become self-reliant.
Noting that several textile industries are expected to come up in Odisha, Dr. Kambhampati advised the organisation to explore employment opportunities for the trained girls in these upcoming industrial units.
He said gainful employment would enable them to achieve financial independence and live with dignity.
The governor also reviewed the support being provided to the participants, including hearing aids and artificial limbs. Taking note of their requirements, he directed the administration to facilitate the provision of hearing aids through Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
Following the interaction, the hearing-impaired girls and persons with physical disabilities visited the Lok Bhavan premises, including Atal Van and Deer Park. Arrangements have also been made for the group to visit Puri on Sunday.
The interaction reflected the state’s focus on promoting inclusive development by enhancing skill training, improving accessibility, and creating employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
