Nation remembers Biju Patnaik

New Delhi: The nation remembered Biju Patnaik on Thursday on his 110th birth anniversary, as leaders across political parties paid tribute.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, said that Patnaik’s passion for advancing Odisha’s progress would be remembered forever.

Minister of Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari also paid homage to Biju Patnaik on his birth anniversary.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid tribute to the iconic leader, saying Patnaik’s key role in shaping Odisha’s progress was remarkable.

Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati also paid tribute to Biju Patnaik on his birth anniversary.

Leader of Opposition and Biju Patnaik’s son, Naveen Patnaik, fondly remembered his father.

“On the birth anniversary of the great people’s leader, the pride of Odias, and former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, I pay my heartfelt tributes. Inspired by his ideals, every worker of the Biju Janata Dal remains dedicated to the service of Mother Odisha. His values of building a better Odisha by taking everyone along continue to be a constant source of inspiration for all of us,” he said in a post on X.

Congress veteran Niranjan Patnaik described Biju Patnaik as a stalwart in Indian politics.

“As Odisha’s Chief Minister, his selfless work and vision for our state left an indelible mark. His commitment to inclusive politics and cordial relations with opponents set a timeless example for everyone. Let’s honor his legacy as his thoughts and deeds continue to inspire us! Humble tributes to him,” he said.

Popularly known as Biju Babu, Biju Patnaik was born on March 5, 1916, in Cuttack. A towering personality in Indian politics, he was also a skilled pilot and a noted industrialist who made significant contributions to the development of modern Odisha through initiatives in industry, education, and infrastructure.

He served as the chief minister of Odisha on two occasions – first between 1961 and 1963, and later from 1990 to 1995. During his tenure, he was widely acknowledged for launching key industrial and infrastructure projects that played an important role in strengthening the state’s economic growth.
