Kevadia, Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday led the nation in paying rich tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary, describing the Iron Man of India as the architect of national unity whose ideals continue to guide the country’s march towards strength and self-reliance.
Addressing the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations in Kevadia — home to the world’s tallest statue, the Statue of Unity — the Prime Minister said that the 150th Jayanti of Sardar Patel marked a “historic occasion” and a moment of immense national pride. “The morning in Ekta Nagar is divine, the view awe-inspiring, and the collective presence of people from across the nation at the feet of Sardar Patel is a moment of great significance,” he said.
Highlighting the nationwide Run for Unity and the enthusiastic participation of crores of Indians, Modi said it reflected the living spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat. He noted that the events held to mark the occasion showcased the “traditions of the past, the labour and valour of the present, and a glimpse of future accomplishments.”
To commemorate the occasion, the Prime Minister released a special postal stamp and a commemorative coin in honour of Sardar Patel, extending his greetings to all 140 crore citizens of India on Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.
In a post on X, Modi wrote, “India pays homage to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th Jayanti. He was the driving force behind India’s integration, thus shaping our nation’s destiny in its formative years. His unwavering commitment to national integrity, good governance and public service continues to inspire generations. We also reaffirm our collective resolve to uphold his vision of a united, strong and self-reliant India.”
Referring to the Statue of Unity as a shining symbol of national pride, the Prime Minister said it represented not only Sardar Patel’s towering legacy but also the collective emotion of millions of Indians who contributed to its making. “The ‘Statue of Unity’ is a tribute to Sardar Patel and what is remarkable is that it was built as a result of a mass movement, where people from across India, particularly from its villages, felt connected with this iconic statue. Do visit Kevadia and discover its grandness yourself,” he posted.
Sardar Patel’s vision, Modi said, continues to inspire New India to remain united and resolute. “The resolve of New India is being tangibly felt,” he added, underscoring that the celebration was not just a remembrance of the past but a reaffirmation of India’s unity and purpose for the future.
