Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday reviewed the state’s law and order situation, internal security and Smart Policing system at the state-level DGP and IGP Conference held at the State Police Headquarters.
Majhi called for dedicated efforts to build a “Safe Odisha, Strong Odisha and Prosperous Odisha” while stressing police reforms and modernisation.
The CM directed the police to adopt a strict zero-tolerance policy towards crimes against women, organised crime and anti-social elements. He also set a target to increase the conviction rate in crimes against women from the current 40% to at least 75%.
Majhi called for completely dismantling the core syndicates and financial supply chains involved in drug trafficking. He said concerted efforts should be made to achieve the goal of a Drug-Free Odisha by 2029.
Ahead of the upcoming festival season, Majhi directed the police to take strict action against illegal forced extortion and dada giri.
He stressed that criminals should feel unnerved when they see the police, while innocent citizens should not feel intimidated. He directed police personnel to treat ordinary citizens visiting police stations with sympathy and sensitivity.
For the security of Odisha’s 575-km-long coastline, the CM directed the deployment of a Command and Control Centre, drones, trawlers, interceptor boats, ATVs and ex-servicemen.
He also called for modern digital surveillance, close monitoring of the dark web and large-scale public awareness campaigns to curb cyber fraud.
The intelligence system will be strengthened through the National Intelligence Grid and Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems. A dedicated investigation fund was also approved for the modernisation of police stations.
Majhi emphasised the need to make crime investigation more professional, modern and technology-driven. He further called for the police system to function in a completely corruption-free, transparent and dedicated manner.
