Konark: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated the 36th edition of the world-famous Konark Festival on Monday. Set against the majestic backdrop of the iconic Konark Sun Temple, this festival has become one of the major attractions for art enthusiasts from India and abroad.

Speaking on the occasion, the CM said that the Konark Festival is a radiant symbol of Odisha’s cultural identity. The festival not only showcases Odishan art but also plays a significant role in presenting the rich cultural heritage of Odisha before a global audience.

This year, along with Odissi, artists from different States will present dance forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathakali, Manipuri, and Kathak.

“Today, I am truly delighted to have participated in two grand events – the 15th International Sand Art Festival and the 36th Konark Festival. The breathtaking sand sculptures created by world-class artists on the Chandrabhaga beach are truly mesmerizing. The participation of artists from Japan, Spain, Russia, various Indian states, and our very own Odisha has given the state a distinct identity on the global tourism map,” Majhi added.

“Similarly, the graceful presentation of Odissi and other classical dance forms by renowned artists from across the country, set against the majestic backdrop of the Konark Sun Temple, is indeed an unforgettable experience. These festivals are not just celebrations of art and culture; they also significantly contribute to strengthening our economy by boosting tourist footfall in the Konark–Puri–Bhubaneswar Golden Triangle and creating livelihood opportunities for local communities,” he added.
