Bhubaneswar: Odisha observed World Soil Day on Friday with a state-level celebration at the Krushi Bhawan Auditorium, inaugurated by Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo. The event highlighted the importance of healthy soil as the foundation of agriculture, food security, and sustainable development.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, Singh Deo said the day serves as a reminder of the collective responsibility to protect and nourish soil resources, ensuring long-term agricultural resilience.
As part of the programme, the deputy CM distributed Murtika Swasthya Cards to farmers. The initiative aims to provide cultivators with detailed information on soil nutrient levels and crop-specific fertilizer recommendations. By enabling affordable soil testing, informed crop selection, and balanced fertilizer use, the card is expected to boost productivity, improve farmer income, and support environmentally responsible farming practices.
The event brought together policymakers, agricultural experts, and farmers to promote soil health awareness and strengthen sustainable agricultural systems across Odisha.
