Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the appointment of several new members to its Women’s Cricket Committee, with Indians Mithali Raj and Amol Muzumdar among the key names joining the panel. The appointments come as the ICC Board hailed the success of the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, calling it a milestone in the global growth of the women’s game.
Former Indian captain Mithali, widely regarded as one of the greatest ambassadors of women’s cricket, and India women’s head Coach Amol Muzumdar will join the committee alongside Ashley De Silva, Ben Sawyer, Charlotte Edwards, and Sala Stella Siale-Vaea, according to an ICC media release.
The ICC Board highlighted the record-breaking achievements of the Women’s World Cup 2025 held in India, which drew nearly 300,000 fans to stadiums – the highest-ever attendance for a women’s cricket tournament. The event also set new benchmarks for global viewership, with almost 500 million television and digital viewers in India alone.
Buoyed by the success, the Board approved the expansion of the next edition of the Women’s World Cup to 10 teams, up from eight in 2025, reflecting the ICC’s ongoing commitment to broadening participation and competitiveness in the women’s game.
In addition, the ICC reaffirmed its focus on strengthening cricket’s global footprint, including preparations for its inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, where both men’s and women’s T20 events will feature.
The Board also approved a 10% increase in funding for Associate Members in 2026 to support grassroots and high-performance development, alongside initiatives in digital innovation, AI-powered fan engagement, and video gaming partnerships aimed at deepening cricket’s reach among new audiences.
Through these developments and the inclusion of experienced voices like Mithali Raj and Amol Muzumdar, the ICC underlined its vision to make cricket a truly inclusive and global sport, with women’s cricket continuing to lead the way in that transformation.
