New Delhi: Indian wrestler Hansika Lamba claimed a silver medal in the women’s 55kg category at the Budapest Ranking Series in Hungary, taking India’s medal tally at the tournament to five.
The 19-year-old lost 5-0 to Ukraine’s Nataliia Klivchutska, a former junior European champion, in the gold medal bout, according to olympics.com.
Hansika reached the final after defeating Türkiye’s Tuba Demir 8-4 in the quarter-finals and Germany’s Anastasia Blayvas 10-7 in the semi-finals after recovering from an early deficit.
The silver medal continues Hansika’s impressive run this season. She had earlier won bronze medals at the Asian Championships and the Ulaanbaatar Open.
India also added a bronze medal through Rajat Ruhal in the men’s 125kg category. Rajat advanced to the podium after defeating the Republic of Korea’s Gwanuk Kim 8-4 in the repechage. He was awarded a walkover in the bronze medal match after American wrestler Mason Parris withdrew because of injury.
Earlier, Rajat had lost to Poland’s Kamil Kościółek in the quarter-finals.
In the women’s 50kg category, Priyanshi Prajapat narrowly missed a medal after losing 4-2 to Ecuador’s Jacqueline Mollocana in the bronze medal bout.
Priyanshi had opened her campaign by pinning Pan-American champion Katie Gomez before losing to Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist Feng Ziqi of China in the quarter-finals. She returned to the medal race through repechage with a victory over Canada’s Katie Dutchak.
Dipanshi, who also competed in the women’s 50kg category, exited in the pre-quarter-finals.
In other Indian results, Dinesh Dhankhar bowed out in the quarter-finals of the men’s 125kg division, while Punit Kumar (92kg) and Olympian Deepak Punia (97kg) were eliminated in their opening bouts.
India has now won five medals at the Budapest Ranking Series. Aman Sehrawat secured gold in the men’s 57kg category earlier in the competition, while Deepak (61kg) and Vishal Kaliramana (65kg) claimed bronze medals.
World championships bronze medallist Antim Panghal is scheduled to compete in the women’s 53kg category on Saturday. The Budapest Ranking Series is the fourth and final United World Wrestling Ranking Series event of the 2026 season.
