BHUBANESWAR: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati discussed the progress and future roadmap of the state’s water resources sector at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday.
He urged the expansion of solar-powered irrigation under the PM-KUSUM scheme to reduce costs for farmers, enhance incomes, and support renewable energy goals.
In a post on X, the governor also stressed sustainable water management, timely completion of irrigation projects, and livelihood opportunities to boost rural prosperity and water security.
In a separate development, Dr. Kambhampati hailed Odisha’s rich natural heritage, describing it as a matter of great pride for the entire state.
He was speaking on the occasion of World Crocodile Day.
“The remarkable conservation success of Bhitarkanika reflects our collective commitment towards protecting biodiversity and preserving ecological balance for future generations,” he stated.
The governor further said: “On #WorldCrocodileDay, let us renew our resolve to safeguard our invaluable wetlands, rivers, and mangrove ecosystems.”
Meanwhile, the National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Ministry of Jal Shakti hailed Odisha’s Kendrapada district for its outstanding crocodile conservation efforts.
In a post on X, it said: “On #WorldCrocodileDay, Odisha’s Kendrapada stands out as the only district in India where all three native crocodilian species – Gharial, Saltwater Crocodile and Mugger – thrive in the wild.”
It added: “Home to the remarkable Bhitarkanika ecosystem, the district also shelters nearly 70% of India’s Saltwater Crocodile population, making it one of the country’s most important strongholds for crocodile conservation. Protecting rivers, wetlands and mangrove ecosystems is essential for safeguarding the rich biodiversity that depends on them.”
