Ecuador registered a surprising 2-1 win over Germany and booked their place in the Round of 32 of the FIFA World Cup.
Group E winners Germany had already qualified for the next stage.
Leroy Sane opened the scoring for Germany in the second minute, but Ecuador responded seven minutes later through a Nilson Angulo goal.
A mix-up between Manuel Neuer and Jonathan Tah helped Gonzalo Plata register Ecuador’s second and final goal in the 77th minute.
He was named Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match.
In another Group E match, Ivory Coast beat minnows Curacao 2-0 and reached the knockout stages for the first time in World Cup history.
Nicolas Pepe was the hero for Ivory Coast as he scored both goals for his side.
A confident Netherlands side thrashed Tunisia 3-1 in their Group F match and set up a Round of 32 meeting with Morocco in Monterrey on June 29.
Tunisian Captain Ellyes Skhiri’s own goal in the third minute gave the Dutch side a 1-0 lead, and four minutes later Brian Brobbey doubled the lead from close range.
Hazem Mastouri pulled one back for Tunisia with a header in the 54th minute.
Jan Paul van Hecke wrapped up the victory for the Netherlands with a superb header in the 62nd minute.
The other two giants from Group F, Japan and Sweden, also advanced to the next round despite battling out a 1-1 draw.
Daizen Maeda found the net for Japan in the 56th minute, and six minutes later, Anthony Elanga equalised for Sweden.
Runners-up Japan will face Group C winners Brazil, while Sweden’s next opponent will be the winner of Group B, E or I.
