Bhubaneswar: Suryabanshi Suraj, Minister for Higher Education, Sports and Youth Services, and Odia Language, Literature and Culture, highlighted Odisha’s rich cultural legacy during an event in Kolkata on Sunday.
Suraj attended the inaugural “Odisha Utsav 2026” as the chief guest, held at the National Library Auditorium.
In a post on X, the minister also extended warm greetings on International Women’s Day. He praised women in the Odia diaspora for preserving family traditions and helping take Odia values to a global audience.
Suraj also spoke about the close cultural bond between Odisha and West Bengal.
The Odisha Utsav was organised by the Department of Odia Language, Literature and Culture in collaboration with Utkaliya Milita Mancha. The festival marked the first time such a cultural event was held outside the State. It aimed to strengthen ties with Non-Resident Odias and showcase Odisha’s vibrant heritage.
Senior officials of the department also attended the ceremony. The one-day festival showcased Odisha’s art, culture, cuisine, and handicrafts in Kolkata. Organisers also held several cultural performances and entertainment programmes.
A large number of Odias living outside the State attended the event. Members of the diaspora, who contribute to Odisha’s cultural, intellectual, and economic identity while living elsewhere, participated in significant numbers.
The minister also expressed appreciation for Odias who promote the State’s image beyond its borders. He praised them for enhancing Odisha’s pride as ambassadors of the State.
