New Delhi: The BJP national President Nitin Nabin on Monday announced the appointment of central observers for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Odisha, Bihar, and Haryana.
For Odisha, Maharashtra Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule has been assigned as the observer. In Bihar, the party chose Chhattisgarh Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma and Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra. Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi will oversee preparations in Haryana, according to a press release.
The biennial elections to the Council of States are scheduled on March 16, with vote counting to follow the same day at 5 PM. A total of 37 seats in 10 states will be filled during this cycle.
The press statement added that the current terms of 37 members from Maharashtra, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and Telangana will end in April, creating vacancies for new members.
In Odisha, five candidates have submitted nomination papers for four Rajya Sabha seats. Among them, two are backed by the BJP, two by the BJD, and one has party support from the saffron camp.
