New Delhi: Adani Defence & Aerospace and Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop a regional transport aircraft ecosystem in India. The partnership aims to support aircraft manufacturing, supply chains, maintenance services, and pilot training within the country.

The collaboration plans to set up an aircraft assembly line in India. Over time, both companies intend to raise local content in a phased manner. The move aligns with the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission and the UDAN regional connectivity programme.

Embraer’s commercial aviation leadership said India remains a key strategic market for the company. The firm believes the partnership blends its global aircraft expertise with Adani’s industrial strength. Together, they will assess practical and efficient solutions for India’s regional transport aircraft ambitions.

Adani Defence & Aerospace highlighted that regional aviation plays a vital role in economic growth. The company noted that UDAN has expanded air connectivity to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. As a result, the need for a domestic aviation ecosystem has become urgent. The partnership is also expected to deepen ties between India and Brazil, according to reports.

The proposed ecosystem will cater to domestic aviation demand. It is also expected to create direct and indirect jobs. Opportunities may emerge across engineering, manufacturing, logistics, and support services.

Adani Defence & Aerospace said the initiative reflects a long-term vision for self-reliant aviation. The company aims to reduce urban-rural gaps, generate skilled employment, and strengthen India’s global aerospace standing.

Embraer already has a strong presence in India. Nearly 50 Embraer aircraft operate across commercial, defence, and business segments. The Indian Air Force operates Embraer-based platforms, including the Legacy 600 and the Netra AEW&C aircraft. Star Air currently operates a fleet of Embraer regional jets.

Adani Defence & Aerospace is India’s largest private player in defence and aerospace. The company works across aircraft manufacturing, unmanned systems, avionics, and sustainment. It also operates the country’s largest MRO network and a growing pilot training platform.
