New Delhi: India has moved a step closer to operationalising the Next Generation Akash (Akash-NG) air defence system, with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully concluding user evaluation trials. The development clears a key hurdle ahead of the missile system’s formal induction into service with the Armed Forces.
During the trials, the missiles successfully intercepted aerial targets at different range & altitude including the near-boundary-low-altitude and Long Range, high altitude scenarios.
In a post on X, the DRDO said: “Akash-NG equipped with indigenous RF seeker and propelled by solid rocket motor is a potent system for ensuring air defense against different types of aerial threats.”
