New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held talks with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New Delhi, with discussions focusing on bilateral cooperation, regional developments, and emerging strategic priorities between the two countries.

According to an official statement released by the External Affairs Ministry, Rubio briefed the PM on the continued progress in India-US cooperation across several sectors, including defence, strategic technologies, trade and investment, energy security, connectivity, education, and people-to-people ties.

The two sides also exchanged views on regional and global developments, including the situation in West Asia.

In a post on X, Modi reiterated India’s consistent support for peace efforts and emphasised that ongoing conflicts should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy. He also conveyed warm greetings to US President Donald Trump and said he looked forward to continued engagement with him.

In a post on X, Rubio described the India-US relationship as important and said discussions covered developments in the Middle East, energy cooperation, secure critical supply chains, and collaboration in emerging technologies. He also said that he had invited Modi to the White House on behalf of Trump.

US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said the meeting focused on strengthening cooperation in areas such as security, trade, and critical technologies, adding that India remains a vital partner for the US in advancing a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

Later, Ambassador Gor hosted Rubio at Roosevelt House in New Delhi for an event marking 250 years of American independence. The gathering was attended by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu, among others.

Rubio also participated in the inauguration of a new support annex building at the US Embassy in New Delhi, which will house management and consular sections. Gor said the facility would improve services for both American and Indian citizens while reinforcing the long-term India-US partnership.
