During the 127th episode of his Mann Ki Baat radio address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the growing international appeal of Koraput Coffee, calling it a shining example of India’s rich agricultural diversity and entrepreneurial spirit.

Known for his fondness for tea, the Prime Minister opened the segment with a lighthearted remark, saying, “You all know my connection with tea, but today I felt like talking about coffee.” He went on to mention that many admirers of Koraput Coffee had written to him, requesting that he feature it in his address. “I’ve heard that Koraput Coffee has an extraordinary flavour. Beyond its taste, what’s truly inspiring is how coffee cultivation is changing lives,” he said.

Modi highlighted that Koraput Coffee is not just about producing a premium beverage — it symbolizes rural transformation and empowerment. He acknowledged the efforts of local entrepreneurs who left corporate jobs to pursue coffee cultivation and commended the role of women farmers who have found new livelihoods through the initiative.

He also took a broader view of India’s coffee landscape, naming well-known producing regions like Chikmagalur and Coorg in Karnataka, Pulneys, Nilgiris, and Annamalais in Tamil Nadu, and the Malabar region in Kerala, while noting that even the Northeast is emerging as a new hub for coffee cultivation.
“The diversity and richness of Indian coffee are truly remarkable,” Modi remarked, adding that India’s coffee is brewed at home but loved across the world.

The Prime Minister’s mention of Koraput Coffee has sparked excitement in Odisha, with both the Governor and Chief Minister welcoming the recognition as a major morale boost for local farmers and a proud moment for the state.

Today, Koraput Coffee stands as more than just a beverage — it represents sustainable farming, indigenous enterprise, and India’s growing footprint in the global coffee market.
