Bhubaneswar: RHI Magnesita has announced a strategic Joint Venture (JV) with Khemka Refractories Pvt. Ltd. to develop a greenfield refractory recycling facility in Odisha.

In a press release, the companies said the initiative aims to strengthen circular economy practices in India’s refractory sector. The proposed facility will be located in Odisha, a key hub for India’s steel and industrial manufacturing ecosystem.

The project will focus on recovering, processing, and reusing spent refractory materials. It is expected to boost the availability of high-value secondary raw materials for industrial use and support closed-loop recycling systems.

Under the agreement, RHI Magnesita will hold a 51% stake in the JV, while Khemka Refractories will hold 49%. The deal is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2026.

RHI Magnesita stated that the venture is intended to reduce dependence on virgin raw materials, improve resource efficiency, and lower carbon emissions across industrial value chains. The company said the initiative aligns with its broader sustainability and circular economy strategy.

Parmod Sagar, Chairman, MD and CEO of RHI Magnesita India, said the company is investing in advanced circular economy infrastructure in India and building a compliant and scalable recycling platform. He added that the project will support waste reduction, supply security, and long-term value creation for customers.

Alok Khemka, Director of Khemka Refractories Pvt. Ltd., said the partnership combines regional strengths with operational expertise. He noted that the collaboration will help scale recycling operations and improve quality consistency in the Indian market.

The Odisha facility will combine RHI Magnesita’s global recycling expertise with Khemka Refractories’ local supply network. It is expected to strengthen supply chain resilience and support sustainable industrial growth in India.
