Bhubaneswar: The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) recently conducted an intensive four-day Knowledge Transfer Programme at the KIIT and KISS campuses, creating a dedicated platform for learning, leadership, and collaboration among women in sport. More than 100 female coaches took part in the initiative, which was aimed at enhancing coaching expertise while advancing gender equity and leadership development in volleyball.
The opening phase of the programme concentrated on core coaching principles, addressing technical proficiency alongside physical preparation, mental conditioning, and social dynamics within teams. As the sessions progressed, the curriculum expanded to include higher-level coaching strategies, match evaluation techniques, and structured youth development models. These concepts were brought to life through live court demonstrations during U17 and U19 matches, offering participants a real-time view of theory translated into practice. An interactive knowledge-sharing forum later enabled coaches to exchange insights drawn from their regional and professional experiences.
Leadership and representation formed the centrepiece of the concluding day. A Women in Sport panel brought together former international player Jana Kulan; FIVB Head of International Affairs and Communications Anna Manuelian; FIVB Director of Finance and Administration Giuseppina Rigamonti; and KIIT Director Dr Nikita Ahya. Moderated by Varun Suthra, Director of International Relations for KIIT and KISS, the discussion examined pathways for women in leadership, equality in sport, and volleyball’s capacity to empower communities on a global scale.
This was followed by a focused dialogue titled “Volleyball for Social Empowerment”, featuring FIVB President Fabio Azevedo; KIIT and KISS Founder Dr Achyuta Samanta; acclaimed volleyball educator John Kessel; and Brahmaputra Volleyball League Founder Abhijit Bhattacharya. The panel explored how volleyball can contribute to education, youth development, and long-term social change.
The programme concluded with advanced tactical workshops, modern training frameworks, final on-court assessments, and a formal certification ceremony.
