Odisha government clears 18 projects worth Rs 3,877 crore

Bhubaneswar: Reinforcing its mission to transform Odisha into an industrially developed state, the Odisha government has approved a new set of strategic industrial investments aimed at accelerating economic growth and generating large-scale employment.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the state has adopted a results-oriented industrialisation model focused on investment facilitation, rapid project grounding, and job creation. Over the last two years, the government has grounded and inaugurated more than 150 industrial projects, underscoring its push to convert investment intent into on-ground industrial activity.

At the 146th meeting of the State Level Single Window Clearance Authority, chaired by Chief Secretary Anu Garg, as many as 18 industrial projects were approved with a combined investment of ₹3,877.14 crore. These projects are expected to generate 7,565 employment opportunities across 11 districts – Balasore, Deogarh, Ganjam, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Khordha, Koraput, Puri, Sambalpur, and Sundargarh.

The approved projects reflect Odisha’s strategy to build a diversified industrial ecosystem spanning advanced manufacturing, green industries, infrastructure, healthcare, and tourism, while ensuring wide employment generation across regions.

In the metals and value-added manufacturing segment, Runaya Eckart Aluminium Powders Private Limited will establish an aluminium downstream manufacturing facility focused on advanced material production and value addition.

Strengthening the steel ecosystem further, Scan Steels Limited, Jay Jagannath Steel & Power Limited, and SS Alufoils International Limited will expand steel, iron, and ferro-alloy manufacturing capacities, reinforcing Odisha’s position as a leading metal manufacturing hub.

Solar Industries India Limited will set up an explosives manufacturing facility in Jharsuguda, adding to the state’s industrial diversification.

In the high-technology segment, EnvairElectrodyne Limited will establish an Electronics System Design and Manufacturing unit, supporting Odisha’s growing electronics manufacturing ecosystem and skilled job creation.

The healthcare manufacturing sector will also see expansion with Harman Finochem Limited setting up a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit, while Ambitech Healthcare Private Limited will establish a medical device manufacturing facility, strengthening the state’s healthcare value chain.

Aligned with sustainable industrialisation goals, South Block Marketing Private Limited will set up an integrated facility for recycling plastic and metal products.

Industrial infrastructure will receive a boost through projects by Tamil Nadu Ispat Private Limited and Alps Mining & Infra Projects Private Limited, aimed at strengthening logistics, material handling, and industrial support systems essential for faster industrial growth.

In a notable diversification into maritime manufacturing, Baleshwar Shipyard and Infra Private Limited will undertake shipbuilding, ship repair, and construction of mechanised floating vessels in Balasore, positioning Odisha as an emerging coastal industrial hub.

The tourism and hospitality sector will also expand with six new projects by Jas Constructions Private Limited, Rath Hospitality Private Limited, Keonjhar Regal Paradise Private Limited, Karyon Ventures Private Limited, Surya Eco Resorts Private Limited, and Chaturbhuja Hotel & Resorts Private Limited. These investments are expected to strengthen tourism infrastructure, improve visitor experience, and generate significant service-sector employment.

With these approvals, Odisha continues to push forward its industrial expansion agenda, combining manufacturing growth, sustainability, and employment generation across multiple sectors and regions.

OAV students shine in JEE Main 2026, 141 qualify for advanced

Bhubaneswar: Students from Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAVs) have delivered an outstanding performance in the JEE Main 2026 (Session 2), with 141 students qualifying for the prestigious Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced).

Leading the achievers, Piyush Ranjan Swain secured an impressive 99.89 percentile, emerging as one of the top scorers from the state. The results underscore the strong academic performance of OAV students, with seven candidates scoring above the 99th percentile, 34 above the 95th percentile, and 63 crossing the 90th percentile mark.

The performance highlights the growing academic strength of the OAV system, which continues to prepare students for national-level competitive examinations through focused mentoring and disciplined learning environments.

Education officials and faculty members congratulated the successful candidates, expressing confidence that many will go on to excel in JEE (Advanced) and secure admissions in premier engineering institutions across India.

Meanwhile, Mohan Charan Majhi congratulated the meritorious students of the state for their success in JEE Main 2026, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.

In a post on X, he said: “My best wishes to everyone for the upcoming JEE (Advanced) examination and a bright future. I believe that our meritorious students will play a leading role in building a prosperous Odisha through their skills and dedication.”

Odisha conducts mass marriages for 1,000 couples under ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana’

Bhubaneswar: In a major social welfare initiative, the Department of Women and Child Development has successfully organised mass marriages for around 1,000 couples across 27 districts in a single day under the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana’.

Deputy Chief Minister and Women and Child Development Minister Pravati Parida attended a district-level ceremony in Balasore as the chief guest. The event, jointly organised by the district administration and the implementing agency at Padmavati Amusement Water Park, witnessed the solemnisation of marriages of 56 couples.

Addressing the gathering, Parida expressed satisfaction over the successful conduct of the ceremony and the union of more than 50 couples in Balasore. She urged parents and the younger generation to work collectively towards eliminating social evils such as child marriage and dowry.

Several dignitaries, including Member of Parliament Pratap Chandra Sarangi, State Women’s Commission Chairperson Sobhna Mohanty, Government Deputy Chief Whip Gobinda Chandra Das, local MLAs, and District Collector Surjyabanshi Mayur Vikas, were present and extended their blessings to the newlywed couples.

The Mukhyamantri Kanya Bibaha Yojana is aimed at supporting families facing financial constraints or social pressures in conducting their daughters’ marriages. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries receive financial assistance of Rs 60,000, of which Rs 45,000 is directly transferred to their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer, while the remaining Rs 15,000 is utilised for organising the wedding ceremony.
