New Delhi: The Ministry of Defence on Friday signed contracts worth ₹858 crore to strengthen India’s air and maritime defence capabilities, with agreements covering missile systems for the Army and aircraft maintenance for the Navy.

The agreements, finalised at Kartavya Bhawan-2, include a ₹445 crore contract with JSC Rosoboronexport for the supply of Tunguska air defence missile systems to the Indian Army. The systems are expected to strengthen India’s air defence network against threats such as drones, aircraft and cruise missiles.

In a separate deal, the ministry signed a ₹413 crore contract with Boeing India Defense Private Limited for depot-level inspection and maintenance of the Navy’s P8I long-range maritime reconnaissance aircraft.

This contract, according to an official release, will ensure Depot level maintenance of P8I fleet at in-country MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility, which is in line with Government of India’s commitment to Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make-in-India.

Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh was present during the signing of the agreements.

The twin contracts are expected to bolster India’s defence preparedness across domains, combining advanced technology acquisition with increased domestic capability in maintenance and support systems
