New Delhi: ACME Group proposed a large-scale green methanol project in Odisha on Tuesday, marking a key step in the country’s clean energy transition. The initiative aims to place Odisha on the global green methanol map.

The company is in advanced discussions to set up a 200 KTPA green methanol manufacturing facility in the state. ACME plans to develop the project in partnership with the Industrial Promotion and Investment Corporation of Odisha Limited.

The proposal took shape during ACME’s interaction with Sampad Swain, State Minister of State for Industries, Skill Development, and Technical Education. The discussions focused on industrial growth, clean energy, and long-term investment opportunities in the State, according to a company release.

ACME has identified Kendrapada district as the proposed site for the facility. The project is expected to create more than 1,100 direct and indirect jobs once operational.

The company said the green methanol plant aligns with India’s goal to become a global hub for green hydrogen and its derivatives. It added that Odisha offers strong infrastructure support and port connectivity for such projects.

Anil Kumar Taparia, COO, ACME Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Business unit, said: “Odisha, with a strong green energy ecosystem and deep industrial and port infrastructure, is fast emerging as an important center for manufacturing of green molecues inclkuidng green methanol.”

ACME also plans to set up multiple green hydrogen and green ammonia units near Paradip and Gopalpur. The output from these facilities will cater to domestic demand and export markets.

With this move, Odisha is emerging as a key destination for next-generation clean energy investments. The proposed project is expected to strengthen the state’s industrial base while supporting India’s broader climate and energy goals.
