Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday directed officials to complete land identification for all 2,200 Godavarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalayas (Model Primary Schools) proposed in the first phase by March 2027, aiming to accelerate Odisha’s flagship primary education initiative.
Chairing a high-level review meeting at Lokseva Bhavan, the CM instructed district collectors to conduct weekly reviews of the project’s progress and submit reports to the secretary of the School and Mass Education Department.
He also announced that he would personally review the implementation of the project every month.
The Godavarish Mishra Adarsha Prathamik Vidyalaya scheme is a flagship programme of the Odisha government aimed at strengthening primary education by establishing world-class schools at the panchayat level.
For the 2026-27 financial year, the state government has allocated more than Rs 2,200 crore for the project.
Emphasising the need to speed up land identification, Majhi said the initiative is intended to achieve the objectives of the National Education Policy 2020 and the Right to Education Act, 2009, by providing quality primary education infrastructure across the state.
The CM said foundation stones have already been laid and construction has begun for 322 model schools. He asked district collectors to make focused efforts to identify land for the remaining schools without delay.
Majhi also directed officials to involve local MLAs in the land identification process to facilitate quicker and smoother implementation of the project.
