Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday directed the state police to intensify action against organised crime and improve public confidence in law enforcement amid rising concern over incidents of violent crime, including mob lynching and murders reported from different parts of Odisha.
During a high-level law and order review meeting held at the Chief Minister’s Office in Bhubaneswar, Majhi asked senior police and administrative officials to adopt a more proactive approach to crime prevention and ensure stronger police visibility across the state. District collectors and Superintendents of Police from multiple districts attended the meeting.
Officials said the CM stressed the need for policing that simultaneously deters criminal activity and builds trust among ordinary citizens. He reportedly instructed police personnel to strengthen their public outreach while maintaining strict action against offenders.
The review comes at a time when Odisha has witnessed heightened public concern over violent incidents and organised criminal activities in certain districts. Majhi also underlined the importance of better coordination between district administrations and police authorities, saying closer cooperation could improve response time and crime control mechanisms.
Senior officials were also directed to strengthen crime mapping, intelligence gathering, and preventive policing measures. The CM reportedly asked police to increase patrolling in vulnerable areas and improve engagement with local communities to gather timely information that could help prevent crimes before they escalate.
The state government also signalled a tougher stance against organised criminal networks, including illegal sand mining operations. During the meeting, CM Majhi reportedly said organised crime should be controlled with the same determination that helped curb Naxal-related violence in Odisha.
