Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Thursday reinforced its position as a leading clean energy investment destination in Eastern India after mobilising Rs67,000 crore in commitments at the third edition of the Odisha Renewable Energy (RE) Investor Conclave 2026 held in Bhubaneswar.

The two-day conclave, organised by the Energy Department, the government of Odisha, along with GRIDCO Limited, brought together policymakers, developers, investors, financial institutions, and technology providers. The International Forum for Environment, Sustainability, and Technology (iFOREST) served as the Knowledge Partner.

The State secured investment commitments covering approximately 6.8 GW of renewable energy capacity through MoUs and investor agreements signed during the event.

The conclave also marked the inauguration of Odisha’s first wind resource assessment and the launch of a city accelerator programme for six cities by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, GRIDCO said in a release.

Addressing the inaugural session, Singh Deo said Odisha aims to emerge as a frontrunner in India’s renewable energy transition. He noted that India has set a target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity by 2030. He further said Odisha intends to contribute significantly to this goal.

Singh Deo sees the State’s coastline as a strategic advantage for wind development, along with strong potential in solar and small hydro. He also pointed to robust policy support and a streamlined approval process.

Additional Chief Secretary (Energy) Vishal Kumar Dev said the State’s focus extends beyond capacity addition to system integration. He emphasised that pumped storage and battery energy systems will ensure grid stability and long-term energy security. Dev stated that Rs67,000 crore in investment commitments were mobilised during the conclave against 6.8 GW of proposed capacity.

Akash Tripathi, Managing Director of Solar Energy Corporation of India, said renewable energy adoption represents both a climate and economic priority.

He noted Odisha’s potential in floating solar and wind energy, and its ability to emerge as a major hub for energy storage through pumped storage projects.

Dr. Chandra Bhushan, CEO and President of iFOREST, said Eastern India holds substantial untapped renewable potential. He added that Odisha’s initiatives in floating solar, pumped storage, and battery storage could play a key role in India’s next phase of clean energy expansion.

During the event, Odisha unveiled a diversified renewable energy pipeline. The proposed projects include over 5,000 MW of floating solar photovoltaic capacity, 18,000 MW of pumped storage projects across 36 identified sites, and 500 MWh of battery energy storage systems supported by viability gap funding.

The State also highlighted opportunities in wind energy, distributed renewables, small hydro, agrivoltaics, and waste-to-energy.

GRIDCO Managing Director Dr. Satyapriya Rath said the Renewable Energy Nodal Agency Cell under GRIDCO supports projects from conceptualisation to commissioning. He stated that the agency ensures transparent procurement, assured offtake, and timely bid processes.
