Sydney: Indian badminton ace Lakshya Sen created a memorable moment in Sydney as he captured his first BWF title of the season, defeating Japan’s Yushi Tanaka 21-15, 21-11 to win the Australian Open 2025. The summit clash, held on Sunday, saw Sen dominate from start to finish, sealing the match in just 38 minutes.

The victory is particularly notable as Sen had spent over an hour battling through his semi-final, yet showed tremendous composure and intensity in the title round. With this triumph, he became only the second Indian to lift the Australian Open crown, following Kidambi Srikanth’s 2017 win.

This championship also marks Sen’s third BWF Super 500 title. The 23-year-old previously clinched the India Open in 2022 and the Canada Open in 2023, showcasing his steady rise on the international circuit. The Australian Open trophy now adds another significant milestone to his growing career.

After enduring a challenging 2025 season, the title comes as a refreshing breakthrough for Sen. Securing his first trophy of the year will certainly boost his confidence as he continues his push for consistency and top-tier performances.
