Bhubaneswar: Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania has chaired a high-level review meeting in Bhubaneswar and directed police officials across the state to intensify crime control measures, strengthen public-police coordination, and make policing more responsive and people-oriented.

The meeting, held at the DGP Camp Office, focused on the overall law and order situation in Odisha, crime prevention strategies, investigation standards, and steps aimed at improving operational efficiency within the police force.

During the review, the Odisha DGP instructed all district Superintendents of Police and Range IGs/DIGs to adopt result-oriented approaches to curb criminal activities and reinforce public confidence in policing systems.

A major emphasis of the meeting was placed on strengthening field-level preparedness and emergency response capabilities. Khurania directed that all personnel deployed in Emergency Response Vehicles should undergo professional and behavioural training to improve their handling of emergency and sensitive situations. He noted that enhanced training would help personnel respond more efficiently during crises and improve public interaction.

In a significant operational directive, the DGP ordered all police stations in the state to conduct mandatory “briefing parades” every day before 9 am. Officials were instructed to ensure strict implementation and continuous monitoring of the exercise.

According to police officials, the daily briefing sessions will include reviews of local law and order situations, identification of crime-prone zones, monitoring the movement of habitual offenders, and discussions on ongoing investigations. The move is aimed at improving coordination, vigilance, and rapid response at the police station level.

The DGP also called for tougher enforcement measures against criminal networks and repeat offenders. He directed officials to expedite the execution of pending Non-Bailable Warrants and initiate stringent action under the National Security Act against hardened and habitual criminals.

Special emphasis was also laid on anti-narcotics operations, with the DGP asking officers to intensify raids and crackdowns against illegal drug trafficking networks operating in the state.

To improve visible policing, Khurania instructed police units to strengthen beat patrolling across all police station jurisdictions and increase highway patrol operations on national highways. He also directed officers to launch focused drives to prevent misconduct and crime-prone incidents in vulnerable areas.

On the investigation front, the Odisha Police chief stressed close monitoring of serious criminal cases, including murder investigations, by senior officers. He directed officials to ensure the swift arrest of accused persons, professional investigation, and timely legal action to secure convictions.

Police Commissioner Dr S. Dev Datta Singh and Additional Police Commissioner Narasingha Bhol were also present during the meeting.
